Mounting the TB6560 Board

These instructions are for mounting the TB6560 board in your enclosure

The TB6560 board can be mounted anywhere in your enclosure. It is essentially the core
of your project and will connect to almost every other component. Its primary function
is to take signals / instructions from your software via the Parallel cable and translate
them into actual movement of your stepper motors and router. It also receives and
interprets inputs from connected devices and sends it back to your software.




AC Mains Power can kill or seriously injure

DO NOT plug in your equipment while you are working on it

Do Not hold your board by any of its components, hold only the board itself

Do not bend or attempt to move any of it's components

Your board can be damaged by static discharge

Do not drop

4 x 6mm Brass standoffs

4 x M3 Nylon screws

Recommended tools

Electric drill

3mm Drill bit (appropriate for the material your enclosure is made of)

Appropriate cutting tool for the material your enclosure is made of.



Parts Overview

TB6560 board

  1. M3 Mounting points
  2. Internal cable terminals
  3. External cable plugs
  4. Toshiba TB6560 chips

The Mounting points (1) are where screws can physically pass through your board
for mounting purposes. Internal cable terminals are where all the out going connections
from the board connect up. External cable plugs are where incoming cables from
other devices connect in (computer, jog pendant, etc..).



Assembly/Installation process

When choosing your mounting point position please consider the following:

  1. The board should not come in contact with other unshielded/un-insulated components
  2. The TB6560 chips will generate allot of heat during operation
  3. Venting under the chips is desirable
  4. Airflow over the board is recommended
  5. Mount your board in a position where incoming cables can get to it, having the cable
    plugs protrude or exposed is optimal
  6. Leave room for rail terminals to plug into the internal cable terminals
  7. The Internal cable terminals is where the bulk of your wiring will be, 50mm is recommended
    space for this area
  8. board should not be mounted over powersupply

Please check your board against these templates prior to drilling. Boards from the same batch all conformed with
each other, however boards from different batches varied by as much as 2mm. I can not claim any confidence
in accuracy due to these measurement differences.

Installation Process

Once you have selected the desired position to mount the board please drill 4 x
3mm holes as per the mounting template. Board orientation is at your discretion.
In the example below there are some vents cut, this is to allow extra ventilation
to allow heat to dissipate. Drilling a number of holes would achieve the same

Screw 4 Brass standoffs in to the holes, this will be easy with all composite materials.
Standoffs stop the board from coming in contact with the enclosure and provide a
ventilation space underneath to assist with heat dissipation. If you have used steel for
your enclosure you may need to tap the holes first or use an industrial adhesive. If
the enclosures material is thin enough, M3 nuts could be sourced and used.


Position the board over the Standoffs and insert the nylon screws.


This image is just to show the cutout to the front of the enclosure to allow the parallel cable to be
connected, there a probably a dozen different ways it could be done.
